In a nearly eight year radio career, I hosted one of the most…..well……unusual shows I’ve ever hosted last night.
I currently host a show called Catalytic Radio with Sheryl Hirsch-Kramer. You can find it on the web at www.BBSRadio.com/catalytic or on syndication outlets including iTunes. You can catch live episodes at www.BBSRadio.com Station 1 every other Tuesday night from 8 to 9 pm Eastern Time.
My best friend, Inspired Healer Susan Meehan, was my guest. I have taken professional host training and know how to sound like a real live grownup, a professional radio host. I really, really do. I have interviewed spiritual luminaries including Lightworkers Steve and Barbara Rother, Tyberonn, Dean Shrock, Ph.D., and Dr. Scott and Shannon Peck. I’ve received compliments from them on my hosting skills. I know how to talk to adults on air, and I even know how to sound like one, too.
Last night’s topics included discussing how it is Susan is six inches taller than me and her clothes fit me perfectly. I described how we both bloated up after three days together at a holistic spa. She outed my secret identity to an international radio audience. Listeners around the world now know me as “The Cosmic Ass Kicker.” If you need to know what that means, be afraid. Be very afraid. 🙂
We were goofy. I told her I’d invited her on as my guest so I could save myself a toll call to Canada. And yeah, we were focused and serious as we discussed her important work in the healing arts and the way she healed her relationship with her father after he passed away. I hope you’ll visit her website. She is really, really good at what she does. Her website is www.BodyMindMedicine.ca
About halfway through the show (Scripts? I don’t need no stinking scripts!), I decided some of the most important work we could present together is our authentic friendship. I knew we were going to tell the miraculous story of how I happened to walk down her street in London, Ontario, Canada, and fall in love with her magnificent German Shepherd Dog, Kumba. I knew we were going to talk about how I knew right away she would become important in my life, even when she wished the dog crazy uninvited American chick would leave so she could go back to enjoying her post-Deepak Chopra lecture high. I knew we were going to talk about how our friendship very, very slowly evolved over the next few years.
I didn’t know we would end up talking about bloating, my alter ego as a Cosmic Ass Kicker, and my boobs making it possible for me to rock her very stylish wardrobe. I just went with it. We had fun.
I am very, very proud of last night’s episode. We showed the world our friendship. The love, the respect, the fun, the history, the honesty, and the energy we share are out there, baby, for all to experience.
Why was it important for us to share our friendship on my radio show?
Both Susan and I value our connection. We are aware of the other’s extreme sensitivity and honor it at all times. We always show each other appreciation when we talk. She understands I am still recovering from a big stroke and honors the progress I have made without criticizing when I forget something or say something wrong. There is no judgment present between us. We only give each other feedback when invited. The rest of the time, we are giggling, sharing, appreciating, loving, and being. We appreciate each other’s differences. I admire her gifts. She admires my gifts. We give each other the space to explore together our current questions without feeling the need to fix each other. She gives me the gift of her undivided attention. I give her the gift of my undivided attention.
I feel completely safe with her. How often do you experience that feeling in life?
The friendship that Susan and I have is unique. I have learned that experiencing quality connections like ours adds to my wellness. I have also learned that experiencing connections that consistently place your needs above my needs take away from my wellness. I think it’s about mutual give and take: not take, take, take. Many people haven’t yet been blessed with a mutually healing friendship like ours. I wanted my audience to experience what she and I have created. When we know to ask for more in our relationships, we make ourselves available for more fulfilling relationships. My mission is teaching Transforming Through Love. Susan and I demonstrated our love on last night’s show. Got it? Good! It’s your turn to do this.
The relationships that light me up involve three beings: you, me and the relationship. The relationship itself has to have an equal place with the two of us in order for it to succeed. I have no patience for unequal connections. If you love me and want to do this together, come closer. If you’re looking for reasons to distance from closeness , if your ego is running the show, if you need to use anything about me to feel better about yourself, the way out is on the right.
Of course Susan and I talked right after the show ended. I told her she might want to consider hosting her own radio show, that she blends a professional approach to her material with her beautiful voice and a wonderful spontaneity that makes people want to keep listening. She told me she always learns things from me whenever we speak. More mutual appreciation. I so love our connection.
If your friendships aren’t feeling so much like friendships these days, if you don’t feel safe, if you’re always on edge waiting to be criticized, if you’re feeling mismatched or bored, if you’re feeling a wall between you and someone else, if you’re feeling you’re doing most of the work and not getting much back, if you’re not feeling heard, if you’re not experiencing mutual respect and love, please listen to our show. The archived recording will be available later today or tomorrow.
Trust Susan and me on this, it’s worth it to do this together.
